Why Bright Spark

Public sector work is different. We build around that.

Designing a solar PV system for a school, a library or a healthcare building requires a different approach to a commercial rooftop. Buildings stay occupied, timetables cannot move, and safety and safeguarding come first.

We schedule installations around holidays and quiet periods, choose locations that minimise disruption to daily activities, and treat electrical safety and fire safety as the starting point rather than a sign-off at the end.

Our installers are fully insured, trained in-house and accredited by the relevant bodies — MCS, RECC, TrustMark, NICEIC and TSI.

Who we work with

Across the whole public estate.

Different buildings, different constraints — but the same standard of delivery and the same documentation on handover.

Schools, colleges & academies

Solar that cuts electricity bills so more budget goes to education — and doubles as a live teaching resource for STEM and Geography, with real generation data feeding into lessons and Eco Clubs.

Healthcare estates

Surgeries, clinics and hospital buildings where continuity of supply matters. Installations planned around clinical activity, with resilience built in.

Councils & community buildings

Libraries, family centres and civic buildings. We have worked with Buckinghamshire Council across multiple sites, including Hazlemere and Chesham libraries.

What to expect

A turnkey process, start to handover.

We manage the whole project so your team is not left coordinating surveyors, the DNO and three different contractors.

  1. 01

    Site assessment

We assess the site to determine solar potential and produce a customised plan including financial projections.

  2. 02

    Surveys

DNO application, third-party roof condition report and structural survey, electrical condition report and asbestos survey.

  3. 03

    Design & funding

System modelled in SolarEdge Designer, alongside guidance on the funding route that suits your legal status.

  4. 04

    Installation

Scheduled around your calendar, delivered by our own accredited engineers with minimal disruption.

  5. 05

    Monitoring & handover

25 years of free PV monitoring, full documentation, and optional curriculum integration for schools.

Funding

Guidance through the funding landscape.

Recognising the financial intricacies involved, we provide expert guidance to help public sector organisations navigate the incentives and grants available, and get renewable projects over the line.

From hire purchase and asset finance to rent-a-roof schemes, capital purchase and grant funding, we have experience of the various routes and can advise on which suits your legal status.

Capital purchase and grant funding are usually the most financially beneficial, because you retain all the benefits and savings the system generates — but they are not open to everyone, and we will say so plainly.

“I was very impressed with this company from start to finish. Their quotation and accompanying project plan was extremely comprehensive, and they answered any questions I had immediately. My panels and battery system (Sigenergy) took two days to fit, and the guys were all very friendly, worked extremely hard and long hours, and left everything very neat and tidy, a real quality installation. All the post installation documentation was provided quickly as promised, they handled all the liaison with the network provider, and helped set up the app. The system is working really well and I would recommend this company wholeheartedly.”

FAQs

Public sector questions.

What are the benefits of solar panels in schools?

Solar significantly reduces electricity costs, allowing schools to allocate more resources to education, and demonstrates a commitment to sustainability that aligns with educational values.

PV systems also offer real opportunities for the curriculum. Beyond generating clean energy they become interactive learning resources, providing live data for lessons across STEM and Geography, supporting science projects and energy-saving initiatives, and giving Eco Clubs something tangible to work with.

Do schools, colleges and universities qualify for incentives?

Many government incentives and grants are available to educational institutions for renewable energy projects. Financing can be achieved through hire purchase, asset finance or rent-a-roof schemes with minimal upfront capital, though capital purchase or grant funding is usually most beneficial because the institution retains all the savings.

How long does it take to recoup the investment?

The payback period varies with system size, location and available incentives. Typically, schools and public buildings can expect a payback period of 5–10 years, with reductions in energy bills from day one.

Will the work disrupt the building?

We schedule around your calendar — holidays for schools, quiet periods for civic and clinical buildings — and choose installation locations that minimise disruption. Safety is paramount, particularly when working with electrical supplies and ensuring fire safety in an occupied building.

What surveys are included?

A DNO application to confirm grid connection compatibility, a roof condition report and structural survey conducted by a third party, an electrical condition report, and an asbestos survey. All of it is coordinated by us.

What is the lifespan of the system?

Solar panels typically last 25–30 years. Alongside our 5-year installation warranty and 12-year manufacturer warranty, we provide 25 years of free monitoring for the PV system.

Can panels power the whole building?

The size of the installation determines how much of the building it can cover. Some sites become net-zero energy consumers with a large enough installation, and adding battery storage pushes self-consumption higher still.

Where can panels be installed?

On rooftops, ground-mounted on open land, or incorporated into covered walkways and parking structures — which often suits school and hospital sites with constrained roof space.
